SHAMROCK, TEXAS: ROUTE 66 CITY BORDERING OKLAHOMA

Shamrock is where you would go to capture the true spirit of vintage garages and diners—located in Texas, right near the Oklahoma border, this city is one of the highlights on historic Route 66 in Texas and Oklahoma. Conoco Tower Station is the main and popular attraction here, but other gems are also interesting and deservedly demand attention. From U-Drop Inn Café to Magnolia Gas Station, you are guaranteed a glimpse of some interesting architecture.

CONOCO TOWER STATION

The tower at Conoco Station sits almost 100 feet tall and is the focal point of Shamrock’s Route 66. After the original owner of the building died in the 1950s, the lot and structures were sold off to different people over the years before the First National Bank of Shamrock purchased them in 1999. The bank donated the gas station and inn to Shamrock Town—restorations were conducted to ensure it looked the way it was in the 1940s. It now operates as a museum.
